Alvy Singer (Allen) has broken up with his girlfriend, Annie Hall (Keaton). He is a New York, Jewish forty year old and twice divorced, neurotic intellectual and also a stand-up comedian. Alvy goes on a stream of consciousness through his memories of their relationship. He tries to find out what caused them to part ways. During the movie he often breaks the fourth wall, speaking to the camera, entering peoples’ stories and even using animation.
